SAN ANTONIO -- Five more witnesses took the stand Wednesday in the case of a U.S. Air Force nurse accused of killing three patients.

Captain Michael Fontana is accused of murdering Dorothy Gray, Ordie Despain, and Silvestre Orosco.

Orosco's daughter-in-law testified in court Wednesday. She said she was in the room when Fontana came in to check on her father-in-law and adjusted his medication. She told the judge just minutes later her father-in-law was dead.

Captain Fontana's superior on the day two of the patients died also testified Wednesday. Captain Tully claims Fontana changed medical orders and gave patients additional medications that led to their deaths. He even put his initials by those changes.

The defense tried to descredit Captain Tully by saying she gave confusing orders that were difficult for Fontana to follow. Defense attorneys also tried to prove she is an unfit doctor, who could also be blamed in the deaths.

More testimony in this case is expected Thursday. News 4 WOAI was told the trial will likely continue into next week.

Captain Fontana asked to be tried by a military judge and not a jury. If found guilty, he could face life in prison.

It is still not known if Fontana will take the stand.
