SAN ANTONIO -- A religious statue at a local Catholic school has again been damaged by vandals.

A neighbor walking his dog spotted a man throwing rocks at the Baby Jesus and St. Joseph statue at St. Anthony Catholic School on McCullough Avenue between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night. When the neighbor approached the man, the man jumped into a white, older model pickup truck and sped off.

The head of the Baby Jesus was knocked off and the left leg is now missing. The nose and right arm of the St. Joseph portion of the statue were also knocked off.

A sculptor is now scheduled to review the damage Saturday to see if the statue can be repaired.

This is the second time this year vandals have damaged the statue. Back in February, someone shot off the heads of the Baby Jesus and St. Anthony. A sculptor who is also parent of one of the students just finished repairing the statues last month.

The statue is a very popular feature at the school, and many people come to pray at the site. The staff, students, and parents at the school are upset and do not understand why someone would want to damage the statue.
