SAN ANTONIO- Vandalism has been plaguing the Millers Pond Youth Football Park on the Southwest side. Parents and volunteers are now asking for community members and leaders to be vigilant and help keep their children's park free of crime.
The park, which is located on Old Pearsall Road, is described by many parents as being located in a problematic area. And now in recent months and even the past few days they say acts of crime have trickled into the park. Millers Park is a place they once considered a safe zone for children.
Dolores Samudio who is a parent and volunteer for the junior football league said, “We had a big portion of the bleachers just literally ripped off and it's really sad because that's where our visitors sit, where our parents sit”.
The league paid an estimated $6,000 for the bleachers, which they say they will not be able to replace anytime soon.
And just as disturbing to parents are the recent fires in trash cans and port-a- potties at the park.
They’re hoping their District 4 City Councilman Ray Saldana and the parks and recreation department will help make the park safe once again for the children.
