SAN ANTONIO- Vandalism has been plaguing the Millers Pond Youth Football Park on the Southwest side. Parents and volunteers are now asking for community members and leaders to be vigilant and help keep their children's park free of crime.

The park, which is located on Old Pearsall Road, is described by many parents as being located in a problematic area. And now in recent months and even the past few days they say acts of crime have trickled into the park. Millers Park is a place they once considered a safe zone for children.

Dolores Samudio who is a parent and volunteer for the junior football league said, “We had a big portion of the bleachers just literally ripped off and it's really sad because that's where our visitors sit, where our parents sit”.

The league paid an estimated $6,000 for the bleachers, which they say they will not be able to replace anytime soon.

And just as disturbing to parents are the recent fires in trash cans and port-a- potties at the park.

They’re hoping their District 4 City Councilman Ray Saldana and the parks and recreation department will help make the park safe once again for the children.

Here's a perfect opportunity for some Mr. Gotrocks in SA to man up and make a true diffrence in the lives of the youth in the city. 6 grand in bleachers, that should be no problem to pony up the cash from some well to do in the Dominion area. Put your $ where your mouth is mayor. You say you want "shared prosperity (spelling?)", well start by replacing what thugs have asconded and then protect your investment by cleaning the streets of the ones who are vandalizing the area. And WOAI, rid the comments section of the jackwagon below hawking cheap stuff.

Thats what happens when the city manager cuts services...when the neighborhood goes to crap, the parks and recreation centers will go to crap. Its a reflection of the community around it....oh, and these are probably YOUR kids!

Here's how to protect your park and your property from valdelism, educate your children and yourselves to realize that the environment of that people who live in Hispanic neighborhoods here in San Antonio, are not living in a very healthy place, and becase of either ignorance or fear, they do nothing about it, and nothing will change unless there is a real crisis! Vioence creats violence, and that is all that many of these people seem to understand. Just look at Mexico!!!

Hey WOAI, learn to spell...it's FOOTBALL. Unfortunately for Miller's Pond, the city doesn't give a crap. They'll spend millions on a river extension no one cares about, but protect a park, no way.
