SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County leaders Wednesday released the 'state of the county' and said it looks good.

The county's finances remain strong despite the adoption of a budget that requires no tax increase and includes a three percent raise for employees. More economic growth is expected next year, which is something that would increase the county's capital budget.

Among the goals county leaders hope to achieve are:
  • attracting young, creative workers so that companies will follow.
  • creating unique, urban areas where young professionals will want to live.. and
  • getting the VIA's multi-modal public transportation system up and running.
"We're the only American city left that does not have either a light rail or commuter system," said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. "We're gonna try to rectify that and try to make it happen here in San Antonio."

County leaders also hope to continue the push to revitalize Downtown by continuing tax incentives for urban housing, by building a grocery store Downtown, and by creating a more vibrant bar and restaurant scene.
