UVALDE, Texas -- It's may seem like an unlikely global destination, but people from 23 different countries are in Uvalde, Texas right now.
Uvalde is hosting the 32nd Annual World Gliding Championship. The World Gliding Championships are the Olympics of glider racing and bring teams from around the world together to compete for the title of the world's best.
Gliders, or sailplanes, are motorless crafts that use only the power of the sun, terrain, and weather to stay aloft.
Temperatures have to get hot enough to create rising air currents, or thermals, to get the gliders in the air. And Uvalde has wonderful soaring conditions that are unique to the world, especially in the summer.
