SAN ANTONIO -- A contract employee at a juvenile detention/treatment center is now charged with sexual assault.
Thelma Nicole Miles is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy that she was supposed to help care for. The 29-year-old woman remains in the Bexar County Jail.
According to investigators, Miles met the teen at the Abraxas Youth and Family Services in San Antonio, a Texas Youth Commission facility, where she worked as a medication technician. The center is meant to help children and teenagers who have been physically or sexually abused or who have had an addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Texas Youth Commission investigators say Miles had sex with the young teenager at least six different times. Court documents state the teen escaped from custody last Wednesday and was picked up by Miles at a cell phone store later that day.
According to police, Miles immediately drove the boy to a hotel off of Broadway, where they stayed and had sex numerous times. The next day, Miles and the teen went to a Motel 6 and had sexual intercourse again. The pair spent the weekend at Miles' apartment off of Nacogdoches before she finally drove the teen to his home in Bell County.
Investigators believe Miles' sexual relationship with the young boy lasted less than a week. However, it is a relationship that could have consequences for many years to come for Miles and the boy.
News 4 WOAI spoke with a representative for Abraxas. He said the company did a full background check on Miles before she was hired back in May of this year. News 4 WOAI ran a check on her criminal history, but nothing showed up.
Miles was fired Tuesday after charges were filed against her.
