SAN ANTONIO – The driver sued for killing two cyclists as they pedaled along Hwy. 16 near Helotes in October has responded to the lawsuit.

In a fax sent on lawyer Aric J. Garza’s letterhead, the driver, Gilbert Sullaway, denies the accident was the result of “gross negligence.”

“We disagree with the assertion that Mr. Sullaway completely lost control of the vehicle in the manner described by the plaintiff’s lawyers,” Garza said.

Sullaway was not charged in connection with the incident.

Greg and Alexandra Bruehler died after their tandem bicycle was hit. In early November, Greg’s father sued Sullaway on behalf of the couple’s 7-year-old daughter.

Sullaway’s lawyer says they were not contacted before the suit was filed.
