If you are taking a piece of my paycheck, at the threat of imprisonment or death if I refuse to pay you, then you better be darn ready to get judged and judged hard. It is my place to do so.

You know Trash, you are correct. I am just as guilty of sarcastic comments as you. I do not know you or your situation. I wasn't trying to judge, but certainly "flippant" could be accurate. Most people who have made similar statements as your original post are the type who haven't had the tribulations the working poor have. So, I did assume, my apologies. However, there are many Moms & Dads out there who are single/ divorced, through no fault of their own, and are faced with the difficult challenge of raising their children alone. This is tough for anyone, especially if that child/ children have disabilities. Now, for someone like that, who has no family to fall back on, a second job is not a choice. There are only so many hours in a day and when you are confined to daycare hours, 1 job is hard enough. Plus, with the cost of childcare, who could afford for 80+ hours of childcare a week??? Especially if you are making $10/ hr or less. Our tax dollars pay for childcare assistance so that single Mom could work the 1 job, I hope you don't begrudge that too. Not assuming you do, I honestly hope you see there are programs to insure people have the opportunity to get back on their feet. Some people accept assistance while they go back to school to further their education so they can be productive members of society. Again, I know that is only a percentage of those on Food Stamps or Section 8, but there are SOOO many who are genuinely trying. I hate to see their efforts scoffed at with insensitive comments such as the one you made in an effort to be cute. I understand the frustration with the moochers out there. I see them every day too. They do not deserve my hard earned money. But, having been raised in a working poor family and fighting my way out of poverty, I have a deep empathy for those who are still in that place desperately striving to move up and out of it. I have volunteered at SAMMinistries and have seen amazing success stories! I wish everyone could share that.

NurseNick, you need to check this article out for a better insight into hard working taxpayer's frustration, anger, and resentment about where our tax dollars are going by many, many, many out there "milking" the system. ....... "Report: Welfare recipients drawing taxpayer funds at strip clubs, liquor joints, porn shops" http://dailycaller.com/2013/01/06/report-wefare-recipients-drawing-taxpayer-funds-at-strip-clubs-liquor-joints-and-porn-shops/

Actually, NurseNick, I have had to work jobs that didn't pay the bills, so I had to work longer hours and do jobs that nobody else would do. I do count my blessings, every one of them, every day. You have no idea what situations I have been in, so who are YOU to judge me. And You have not walked my road. You are right, I don't know what it's like to have a child with a diability, but I do know what it's like to have a major diability myself for the last forty some years. I still worked at crappy jobs that perfectly healthy people wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole and kept at it until something better came along. As for making assumptions, seems you've done a pretty good job of it here, yourself. I KNOW what truth and humility is. I also know the only way you can rehabilitate someone, is only if they want to be rehabilitated. Yes, I did think my comment was cute, otherwise I wouldn't have made it. So, why don't you get off your high horse Mr. Save the World, I've got my opinions just like you.

So, what makes you think someone with a child on Medicaid or lives in Section 8 housing isn't already working? Furthermore, what would make you think that they are all uneducated and have no work experience? Do you find your little comments cute or intelligent? Because they are not. They are hateful and ignorant. There are plenty of hardworking parents who can not make ends meet in this economy. I thank God I am not one of them. But, as a nurse I encounter them every day. How fortunate you must be to have never been in a situation where you had no family to depend on for assistance, been laid off and forced to accept employment which doesn't even cover the bills, and children born with a disability, and with a heavy heart asked for help. Help from a system YOU have paid into. You should truly count your blessings. There are many who are not as fortunate as you or me. It is not our place to judge, nor should we assume. You do not walk their road. Yes, there are plenty of folks out there "milking" the system. But there a a large amount of people just trying their best to get by. Instead of making assumptions or taking it upon yourself to make broad generalizations about those in need of assistance, why don't you try rolling up your sleeves and volunteering in programs to rehabilitate those in need? A little truth and humility may do you some good :)
