NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- A horse that residents say was left to starve on a piece of property in Comal County has died.

Neighbors who were upset with the property owner contacted News 4 WOAI and told us he was not caring for animals on his property. A News 4 WOAI crew went to the property to speak with those neighbors and contacted Comal County officials after spotting a horse who appeared emaciated lying on the ground and a donkey who also appeared malnourished. CLICK HERE to read/view the story.

The Comal County Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday that a veterinarian went out to the property Wednesday night. By the time he arrived, however, the horse had died.

Neighbors told us the donkey has been removed from the property, but the sheriff did not confirm that with us.

News 4 WOAI was also told no charges against the property owner are being pursued at this time, but the case will be turned over to the Comal County District Attorney's Office for review.

Hello Caring Neighbors. I have spoken to the Comal County Sheriff's Dept. There are MANY excuses as to why they have not acted upon this positive inhumane cruelty. My job is to make sure this horse and Donkey get the justice they deserve without the cover up of a horse is just a horse. Federal and State Laws have clearly been broken here. I need ALL of your help to bring this case before the people and insist on crimal charges being brought. PLEASE contact me at: annabell81824@aol.com or on my numbers: 815-260-1722 Cell or Office: 815-909-0263. I call Texas home, although I had to leave state to cover another abuse case in Illinois, I am coming home this summer. Comal and Bexar County is my HOME and we must ensure that laws broken are ENFORCED. Please help us to bring justice to the Horse I have named Amigo and the donkey who has gone missing. The excuses made by the Sheriffs Dept are leaning towards to crimes being NOT committed; I beg to differ and they are legally bound to uphold the laws, friend of the alledged criminal or not. PLEASE help us to bring Justice to Comal County for "AMIGO", and fitting to call the Donkey "JUSTICE". I will disclose what has been so boldly shared with me by the Sheriffs Dept. If WE ALL do not band together, this will send a clear message to all abusers and to the folks who are supposed to uphold the Law can easily turn a blind eye when they see fit or when their excuses are they don't know the LAW ??? Claiming to not know the law is no excuse. If a law enforcement officer is confussed then they must be given a crash course and need to study case law or call the Prosecutor's office and find out the law; if you cared enough and took your badge as a symbol to Care and PROTECT. This is WRONG and with you all we can make it right again. Thank you for your compassion and know you are NOT alone anymore. We are ALWAYS here to help make wrongs right. Sincerely- Angela Miller Valianos H.A.L.O

This story makes me sick to my stomach. That horse should have been seized after the first call. Now it has died an absolutely horrible death. The owner needs to do major time. I hope the judge here sentences this POS "owner" like a judge in Houston did a few yrs ago....sentenced the witch to jail and nothing but bread and water to eat. There is absolutely NO excuse for this. Shoot it rather than let it suffer like that. I couldn't watch the video.

shinerboy is correct. This dirtbag is listed on the Comal County Apprasal District website. It gives name, address and phone number. He lives here in S.A. on the N. side. What a sorry excuse for a human being to let this happen.

I have to disagree with the folks who are offended by the photos and video of this suffering horse. As painful as it is, we need to make ourselves look at these realities; maybe the next time we see suffering we'll take action before it's too late. I think Comal County officers should be hung out to dry for this.

My uncle in California noticed a starving horse on a large peice of property, and made several calls to the police and several animal organizations, and nothing was ever done. Well, he is now the proud owner of this horse that he took upon himself to load up in his trailor and took to his vet. His vet told him that horse only had a few days to live, and that he wouldn't tell a soul that my uncle took him. He said that horse did nothing but eat for 3 solid days. He's beautiful!! Unfortunately, this poor horse wasn't that lucky, but the donkey was. Bless their hearts!!

They needed to start an I.V. immediately to get fluids on board. It's hard to watch this short clip.

It is simple...find the owner, and leave him strung to a tree outside during the cold winter months without food and water and leave HIM to die. Life is life regardless if it is a human life or the life of a horse...who are we to play God?

I think we needed to know what happened but there was no need to show the dying horse trying to get up - on tv - over and over and then post this picture. WOAI needs to be a little more sensitive - you can work to educate and give places to report.
