SAN ANTONIO - A police officer is in critical condition after his patrol car collided with a truck on the Northwest Side.

The accident happened on Medical Drive near Interstate 10 around 2:45 a.m. Monday. Police say 28-year-old San Antonio Police Officer Edrees Mukhtar was driving east on Medical Drive when he drove over a patch of running water on the roadway, causing him to lose control of his patrol car. The car hit a curb, skidded sideways, and then collided with a pickup truck traveling west on Medical Drive.

A police report states Officer Edrees suffered "incapacitating injuries" and was taken to University Hospital.

The 40-year-old woman driving the pickup suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.
