SAN ANTONIO - Two women are dead after the SUV they were in went off a turnaround ramp on Interstate 10 on the Northwest Side and landed on the highway.

Emergency responders were called to Interstate 10 at the Wurzbach Road exit around 3:30 a.m. Friday. Police say a Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling eastbound along the Interstate 10 access road, when the driver tried to take the turnaround at Ramsgate and lost control of the SUV. The SUV then went off the road, hit and went over a concrete barrier, and fell 30 feet onto the highway. The SUV came to a rest on its roof in the middle of the Wurzbach Road exit.

The female passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to University Hospital and died on arrival.

Police say neither of the women was wearing a seatbelt, and it's unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

That's not the first accident there, this is the 3 in one month at the same turn Around. It's a super Sharp turn you have to be going super slow just to not pop the curve.

My condolences to the families. A tragic story. They didn't have to die. There are many other reckless drivers out there who should learn from this story, but will not. We'll read about them in the weeks to come.

The driver may have been under the influence but the police there said they would probably not be dead if they had been wearing their seat belts. I didn't say TXDOT was at fault, I said TXDOT needs to renew their campaign about wearing your seat belt regardless of where you are sitting in the car.

They probably left the bar and were heading to Mama Margies for breakfast, and took the turnaround WAYYYYYY to fast. That, to me, does not seem to be a texdot issue, but a drunken driver incident.

What is it with people not using their seatbelts all of a sudden? Do we need another campaign telling these people that seat belts save lives? Even if you are in the back seat - USE THE SEATBELT! It was put there for a purpose! Just because you are in the back seat obviously does not save you from serious injury or even death. The fact that all the deaths lately have been women worry me. We are supposed to be the smarter of the two but it doesn't look like that here! TXDOT do your duty, push the use of seat belts and SAPD, look a little closer to anyone you are around to make sure the occupants have their seat belts on. Remember? Click it or Ticket? Do it!

An accident similar to this happened in the same area where the female driver missed the turn around and fell on to IH10 and died. I think the comment about Castro is its his fault because we cant blame Bush anymore.

I am not a fan of Mayor Casto but I am also confused as to how exactly these accidents are his fault or what he could do about them. All of these young women failed to wear seat belts and if the media is correct, all three accidents were caused by human error or negligence.

@Gnaeus, I must be missing something because I don't understand what Mayor Castro can do about women being killed in vehicle accidents. Please explain it to me.
