SANANTONIO -- News 4 WOAI is tracking developments in the double shooting that prompted an Amber Alert this morning. Police now confirm the two women who were shot have died and the accused killer is in custody after a police chase.

Officers say Tabari Strong walked into an apartment at the Kenton Village Apartments on Nacogdoches and shot his child's mother and another woman. Both victims were rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center where they died a short time later.

Investigators say the man then went to a nearby apartment complex and picked up his eight-year-old son. An Amber Alert was issued after police became concerned for the child's safety. The boy was found roughly two hours later at a relative's home on the northeast side.

Investigators say a friend of the suspect was driving the man to police headquarters where he had planned to turn himself over to authorities. Instead as they got close to the police department, the suspect allegedly jumped out of the vehicle. His friend got out and tried to get the suspect to get back in the car. Officers say that is when the suspect jumped back in the car and took off. He is accused of leading police on a chase across the city. Officers tell News 4 WOAI, the man pulled over and got out of the car at IH-10 near W.W.White on the southeast side and was taken into custody.

He is being questioned at police headquarters. Officers tell us they did recover the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.
