SAN ANTONIO - The maker of the famous "Twinkie" is threatening to shut down all of its bakeries across the nation if its workers don't get back to work by 5 p.m. on Thursday.

About 30 percent of workers for Hostess Brands, Incorporated have been on strike since Friday, protesting a new contract offer that cuts wages and benefits.

The workers on strike are members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

The union rejected the new contract offer back in September and says the company stopped contributing to workers' pensions last year.

Hostess, which employs just over 18,000 people nationwide, has already had to permanently close three of its 36 bakeries just this week and says it can't financially survive if the strike continues.

This should be interesting. I doubt that if the company closes shop, the national union will get the message. However, 18,000 of its members sure as heck will!
