SAN ANTONIO -- A truancy roundup is underway in San Antonio.

Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Roger Lopez Jr. warned two weeks ago he would crack down on Judson and SAISD students who have missed too much school.

Several SAISD students were arrested at school Wednesday.

Students and parents can face a $500 fine, community service, or probation.

so has anyone asked the question.. why do kids now days not want to go to school? because that seems to be the issue.. if you make school the place kids want to be then you don't have a problem with kids skipping.

Well, every $500 fine helps the budget, wherever it comes from. Most parents, including very good ones, don't have a clue what their kids are really doing. Fifty years ago or so, when I was in high school, we didn't even think about skipping school because that's where all our friends were. My dad was wonderful and extremely intelligent and patient, but I knew what his boundaries were and I didn't cross them. It's not that way anymore.

Yea and approaching little Jimmy with the spiked hair and Goth outfit driving around in the car mommy and daddy bought him. Get those blond blue eyed truants off the streets.

I like the part where the students are arrested at school...where they're supposed to be. How about expanding the search area and approach homie standing on the street corner slangin' during school hours. They don't look like they're 'out sick' to me.

If I had ever been caught skipping school, the truant officer would have been the LEAST of my worries.
