BETHESDA, Maryland -- A popular teen gossip Website has been shut down. The "People's Dirt" site came under heavy criticism after a teen posted death threats against a Maryland high school.

The site drew the attention of Maryland's attorney general when a former student allegedly posted death threats against students and staff at Bethesda's Whitman High School.

The Maryland attorney general wrote letters to the advertisers on the People's Dirt site.

They pulled out, and then the host pulled down the site.

Attorney General Doug Gansler said in a statement:

"The website was home to abusive, harmful and embarrassing attacks on kids. It is my hope that we have seen the last of this vicious website."

Internet safety experts and school officials admit The People's Dirt isn't the first and likely won't be the last site to give a forum for trash-talk.
