SAN ANTONIO -- Sitting down to share a holiday meal with the family just isn't possible for many of the men and women in the military. However, hundreds of Air Force trainees made new families for the day in Operation Home Cooking.  This marks the 37th year that members of the community have opened their doors and hosted trainees from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

The Goins family on the far northwest side took in four trainees because they know how it feels to not be able to go home for the holidays.

"We're both military background, been in the military all my life and raised as a military brat. We like giving back to the military," Joe Goins said.

Trainee Nickolas Foley and his friends loaded up their plates with traditional turkey and all the sides.

"I'm excited to have some home cooking again because I love it," Foley said.
