AUSTIN -- The fastest highway in the state has already seen one of the fastest speeds ever. A test driver hit 220 miles per hour Tuesday on SH 130, the new toll road from east of Seguin to Georgetown.

The driver, in a Cadillac by Hennessey Performance, hit the high speed to test the toll tag cameras.  They snap a picture of your license plate so you can get a bill in the mail, if you don't have a toll tag.  Even at speeds far exceeding the legal 85 miles per hour limit, the cameras still worked, so you can run, but you can't hide from the toll.

The cameras do not track a car's speed because that is against state law.  DPS says troopers will be out to monitor the new toll road, just like they patrol every other highway in the state, however, a spokesperson couldn't say how many officers would be out there at a given time. Other counties and cities do have jurisdiction and will be patrolling the toll road as well, the spokesperson said.

"Other counties and cities will be patrolling, as well". Do their law enforcement agencies have to pay to get on the toll road? Won't they then have to generate revenue to pay for that toll? Revenue generating punks!

Speaking for myself I like the higher highway speeds, all it took was to get the Democrats out of power in the state and fed govt in order to get the speeds raised. Can anyone actually believe we used to have to drive 55 MPH? WTF?! However I do hate toll roads, especially those run by foreign companies.

I don't get what all the excitement and constant reports about this new stretch of toll road are about. The stretch from Buda to north of Georgetown has been there for years and nobody ever mentions it. The speed limit has been 80 for quite a while. What's another 5 mph? Just some more hype to get public attention and bring out all the nuts and naysayers who are confident there will be massive numbers of accidents, death and destruction, which hasn't been the case in the years of the 80 mph toll road. But the whiners and complainers have to do their thing regardless.

Generally I am not a supporter of the litigious mindset but when someone is injured or killed on this toll road I would love to see the foreign owned company responsible for the road sued.

Thats a stupid test, and no one cares about a ticket in the mail. Its hit or miss. You may get a ticket, you may not. Thanks for letting us know that we can haul a$$ at 220 mph and get home faster. dumb.
