SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of three people for a 1997 murder case.
On Aug. 21 of that year, deputies found the decomposed body of 36-year-old Conrad Arredondo laying near
Pue Road north of West FM 1604 South in southwest Bexar County.
Arredondo had been stabbed multiple times. The medical examiner’s office also found evidence of blunt-force trauma.
The BCSO’s Division Cold Case investigators say they have charged three men with the murder. This comes after looking anew at the case by interviewing witnesses and possible suspects.
Charged are Joe L. Casas, 33, Alfred Deleon, 45, and Gilbert Cardenas, 46. Investigators say they were able to make the arrests after witnesses' and written statements pointed to Casas and Deleon.
Cold case deputies said a key piece of evidence collected at the crime scene at the time of the murder combined with new technology helped them solve the case.
At a Wednesday afternoon news conference, Detective Adrian Ramirez said, “There are times when we go through a case file that we find evidence that can be tested now with today's new technology that can lead us to DNA or fingerprints. So the tools of today and technology really help us."
On Tuesday, Casas and Deleon were arrested and each are being held on a $100,000 bond.
Investigators are still looking for Cardenas.
