SAN ANTONIO -- It's a San Antonio tradition that continues to give back.
On this Thanksgiving Day, hundreds of San Antonio families opened up their homes and welcomed soldiers, airmen and trainees from across the country.
Betty Cardona says, "We want to show our graditude because they are away from home, serving our country and giving us the opportunity to be free".
The Cardona family has welcomed local miltiary into their home for 12 years.
On Thursday, the Cardona family hosted six soldiers and trainees and they tell us it's a gift to be able to do it.
News 4 WOAI was told more than 4,000 service members were welcomed into homes across San Antonio.
Betty Cardona says, "We have an amazing city -- a city of people who care and give back to the community."
