The Census form: What's in it for you?

You've probably received one of those letters from the Census Bureau emphasizing how important it is to fill out. Most people we asked knew it was important because it was connected to bringing money to our area. But it goes beyond that.

pbwalker - I’m with you. The Constitution dictates that once every 10 years a head count will be conducted for the purpose of determining the number of representatives for a state. No other authority to ask a bunch of invasive questions is given. Tell them how many people live in your house and nothing else. Any threats they issue are idle: they do not want to go to court and lose.

rickytammy, you are absolutely correct in your logic, but the big federal agencies rarely exchange information for that purpose unless there is crime or a threat to the safety and security of our country. As many people know, the feds are not the most efficient with obtaining and extrapolating information; as well as the different agencies not wanting to share information among themselves. This was obvious after 9/11 when the CIA and FBI couldn't coordinate efforts prior to the attack to share info to avoid it altogether. So I agree with you totally on your point and completely understand your logic, but I'll go through the nuisance of filling out my form to get whatever help the city or county can get to keep me from complaining about this place. That's just how the government works. It sucks, but that's reality for the time being.

The Federal Government has usurped the rights of the states under the deal we made with them (we called it the Constitution and it used to be the agreement under which the country was run). Now they take our money through their taxes. That is the tax money the States should be using to fund their education, their infrastructure improvements, buying police cars and all the other services provided to the citizens of the States by themselves through their lawful representitive, which is the State. Now we let them come here and take our money and then we beg some of it back from them. They graciously return some of our money with great ceremony. Of course, we have to make nice and follow their rules to get it. All these things I have just said would be true under the Constitution, but that old, worn out piece of sheepskin is just an antique today. Now, tossing away the freedom from big, all powerful government that we fought so hard for is considered perfectly normal. They very definition of "Liberalism" has been changed from the ascendancy of the natural rights of man over government to the surrender of those rights to government. People can be real sheep and this flock is headed for the cliff.

you people do realize that census statistics help you avoid poor/ghetto neighborhoods that you don't want to move to, right?

rickytammy - 3/10/2010 9:03 AM
gauteng, if they want that information all they have to do is look at the federal tax returns, if ppl want their money they will fill out the returns accurately, it's that simple. If the state wants to build new roads then start having a state income tax, you want better education within the state, raise education taxes. I'm sure the state of TX gives out enough state i.d.'s and d.l.'s that we can manage to get enough federal money to get our roads built and our kids educated.

It's amazing that people don't want to fill out the Census form, and yet later complain when their children's schools have to lay off teachers and cut programs due to lack of funding or when there's no money available to upgrade Hwy 281 or 1604. pbwalker has the right idea with simply answering the number of people in the household. The important thing is just knowing how many people are in an area since that determines how much federal funding and area is allocated. The other information isn't as critical. So for folks that just want to trash the Census form, just follow pbwalker's advice and fill in the number of people in the household and mail it back. The more money San Antonio can get, the better!

I received the dreaded letter yesterday. It was there menacing me from the mailbox when I got home. I am unsure why the government men, who serve no god but Hollywood, want to know these things about me. I am aware of all the reasons the government cites for keeping good track of where I am and what I am doing and what I think and I know their excuse is that they are forced to do so by the constitution they so despise, but I don't believe them. I think they have other, more sinister motives than the help, aid and understanding they say will spring forth. They keep counting me every ten years and they never do anything they say they will. Why then do they want this information? I have prayed mightily over this issue and I believe God wants me to throw the form in the BBQ pit outside and set fire to it as soon as it arrives. It is the work of the Devil and no Christian should be involved in that work. Don't even open it.

I'm so sure people living with 9 or 10 illegals are gonna count em up and fill out the form. Idiots.

I think it's a waste of money to send a letter out saying the census will becoming in a week or so. What did the preliminary letter cost to send out. A few million dollars. Our taxes at work

The best place for the census form is in the trash.
