SAN ANTONIO --
The spirit of Thanksgiving is very much alive as volunteers for Meals on Wheels arrived Thursday morning to prepare and deliver Thanksgiving dinners to nearly 2,000 homebound senior citizens.

Nancy Moore was a recipient.  Her eyes swelled up with tears of heartfelt gratitude as she said, “Remember this, thank you God for everything.”

Nancy could not be with loved ones this holiday, but she still counts her blessings for the kindness of strangers.

Because she takes part in the Meals on Wheels program on a regular basis, she was made aware that turkey with all the fixings would be delivered to her door.  But, she never imagined all the extras that came along with that delivery.

Some Girl Scouts gathered to make cards, while beauty queens helped to distribute socks, Christmas trees, and other decorative items.

We’re told that the generosity an estimated 400 volunteers started around three o’clock in the morning.  They were up early to cook the food.

Many more lined up in their cars as they created a slow-moving assembly line with all the goods needed for delivery.

For volunteer Beverly James, this experience made her holiday.  James said, "Yes, it did make my Thanksgiving.  This is what Thanksgiving is all about.”
