SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Burn calories and make energy. Texas State University plans to turn its elliptical machines into human-power plants.

The San Marcos school will be retrofitting 30 elliptical trainers next month.That will allow people to convert their exercise into renewable energy.

A typical 30-minute workout will convert enough effort into electricity to power a laptop for three hours.
