AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The embattled Texas Highway Patrol Museum in San Antonio will close in a court settlement reached with the state.
The San Antonio Express-News (bit.ly/SP7Omb) reported Wednesday that less than a penny of each fundraising dollar went to help Texas troopers and their families.
The museum is not connected to the Texas Department of Public Safety, which oversees highway patrol operations.
Attorney General Greg Abbott last December sued the museum and alleged financial mismanagement. A settlement filed Tuesday in Austin resolves the lawsuit and shuts down the museum.
The lawsuit named executive director Tim Tierney and some museum board members.
Attorney David Minton, who represents several board members, says his clients were unaware of questionable spending. Tierney must settle $40,000 in credit card bills owed by the museum.
