LA PORTE, Texas (AP) - Inspectors are renewing their search for leaks aboard the Battleship Texas after a temporary patch failed to stop leaks in the 100-year-old battlewagon's rusted hull that caused flooding.

Ship manager Andy Smith tells the Houston Chronicle that the rubber patch placed over a two-inch hole Tuesday decreased the leak from more than 1,100 gallons per minute to about 250 gallons. However, he says the continued leak means the patch isn't watertight or that there are other holes in the hull.

The battleship, which fought in World Wars I and II and has been berthed permanently beside the Houston Ship Channel since 1948 as a state-owned memorial and museum, will likely remain closed through Friday as inspections continue.

It's a piece of history and needs to be preserved.

We must save this ship! We can't wait until it sinks and then debate whether it is worth saving . . . that decision (to save or not to save) must be made by the State NOW, and appropriate action must be immediately taken. A plan has been approved to dry-dock it and when repairs are complete to put the ship on static display in a cradle on dry land. Why won't the owner of the ship (The State of Texas) respond to the emergency and go forward with the plans immediately in order to save this last, remaining piece of naval history (the last of the dreadnought class of American battleships).

In view of the deteriorating condition of the relationships between Texas and a number of northern states that have fallen under the control of socialsits and communists, as well as the federal government which is in cahoots with them, I believe it is likely that we will have need of our battleship directly. For that reason I urge Governor Rick Perry to appoint a group of determined men who will get the Texas ready to do battle. God is on our side, but he expects us all to do our part.
