SAN ANTONIO - Gilbert Sullaway is accused of hitting and killing Gregory and Alexandra Bruehler in Helotes back in Oct. 2009. The couple was killed as they rode their tandem bike along Highway 16.

A jury heard testimony Thursday from witnesses who described Gilbert Sullaway as a good family man. Witnesses for the defense took the stand Thursday afternoon saying Sullaway is a church-going man who is very involved with the community. Loved ones described him as a law-abiding citizen.

The state continues to argue Sullaway was failing to maintain his lane, not keeping a lookout and speeding when he veered into the shoulder and hit the Bruehlers, killing them.

The defense maintains Sullaway was not speeding.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
