BOERNE, Texas - Police say four teens caused "extensive" damage to two athletic fields at Boerne-Champion High School overnight Tuesday.
Lt. Steve Perez says after midnight the teens cut the lock on a gate and drove a truck on the football and soccer fields. A surveillance camera caught the vehicle on video during its path of destruction. He said the football field never had never seen a single play.
"The Boerne school district, the athletics department, parents of athletics had money donated to get that field going," Lt. Perez said. "That field was started from scratch and this was going to be the first year to play on it."
Officers spotted the truck in Boerne around lunch time Tuesday, and the teen later confessed to the crime he said. The 16-year-old driver could face a criminal trespass and criminal mischief charge.
Lt. Perez said the four teens attend Boerne High School, but the prank wasn't because of school rivalry.
"There was nothing given for why they did it aside from being teenagers and mischievous," he said.
The school district was still tallying up the damage.
