SAN ANTONIO -- A teen was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on the Northeast Side Wednesday night.
Joshua Alejandro Ortega was hit around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday while cycling in the 6000 block of FM 78, near North Foster Road. Police say it's unclear if the 16-year-old was riding in the street or crossing the roadway when he was hit by a Chrysler 300 in the left lane. The driver of the Chrysler told police she did not see Ortega until she hit him. Ortega, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.
Investigators stated the area where Ortega was hit had no lighting and was very dark at the time of the accident. They said Ortega was wearing dark clothing and his bicycle did not have a headlight or tail light on it.
Judson Independent School District officials confirmed Ortega was an alternative school student through Wagner High School.
The woman who was driving the car will not face charges.
