SAN ANTONIO - Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for the brutal stabbing death of a Southeast Side woman.
Joshua Louis Garcia was arrested and charged with murder of 29-year-old Charity V. Romo. Romo's boyfriend found her body inside a home on Fair Avenue back on April 4th. She had been stabbed multiple times in the throat. Investigators say while officers were at the home, Garcia's mother approached them and said she thought she knew "who did it."
When questioned, investigators say Garcia's mother told them her son had come home around midnight on the night of the murder, was "out of breath and acting strange," and was wearing different clothes. She said she found a black purse in their backyard with clothes, drugs, a scale, and a broken knife in it. Garcia's mom told officers when she spoke with her son about the items, he first told her he had "jacked" some lady for her purse but later said he took a couple's belongings and had stabbed the man. She said the two then got into a brief struggle for the purse and that her son took it and left.
Homicide detectives discovered Garcia had an active felony warrant and asked officers with the Repeat Offenders Program to arrest him. Upon questioning, investigators say Garcia admitted killing Romo and said he did it to prevent her from telling anyone he had stabbed her.
Investigators also say a bloody fingerprint found at the murder scene matched Garcia's.
