SAN ANTONIO - A teenager accused of murdering a woman who was trying to help him has been ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation.
The 16-year-old was in court Monday morning and is now one step closer to being tried as an adult.
The teen is accused of killing Adriana Terry back on September 12th. The 63-year-old's body was found in the bathroom of her home on Coleridge on the Northeast Side. Terry had befriended the teen and let him stay at her home.
Police say the teen confessed to the crime.
A judge agreed the boy will need a psychological evaluation. The teen's defense team asked they be present when he sees a doctor. His lawyer talked to us about how the boy is doing.
"He was basically in shock the first couple of times that I saw him," said attorney John Young. "But he's resolved some of these things in his mind now, and he's able to communicate with me."
The teen's next hearing is set for November 8th. In December, he'll go before a judge again to find out if he will be certified to stand trial as an adult. If is tried as an adult and is convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
