SAN ANTONIO -- A teacher assistant in the North East Independent School District is without a job after a student was bitten by a rattlesnake.
The incident happened during an after-school program at Longs Creek Elementary last Wednesday. The boy was standing near the assistant, who let him touch the snake.
District officials say the assistant used poor judgment, and she is no longer working for them. The area near the school has been sprayed to keep snakes away.
News 4 WOAI was told the boy is still recovering but doing better.
