SAN ANTONIO -- The westbound lanes of IH-10 are now clear after being shut down most of Tuesday morning due to a tanker explosion. Flames could be seen erupting from the tanker truck as fire crews arrived to the scene on IH-10 near the Colonade.

Police say it was about 2:00 a.m. when the driver experienced some kind of mechanical problem that caused the explosion. Investigators tell News 4 WOAI that fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before igniting the fuel inside the tanker.

The driver of the truck was able to make it out safely. The westbound lanes of IH-10 were re-opened just before 4:30 a.m.

A tanker truck exploded but the fire department extinguished the flames before the flames ignited the fuel in the tank? Brian Collister should go investigate how that is possible. How about; a tank truck caught fire and the great response from the fire department kept the tank from exploding. Sensational stories that are exaggerated lead to people not trusting the story teller.
