SAN ANTONIO -- A man was shot in the leg while trying to steal a truck early Tuesday morning, police said. The homeowner told police he heard someone breaking into his truck outside his home near Rada and Renova on the city’s south side.

Police said it was around 2:30 a.m. when the would-be thief had trouble starting the engine, so, officers say, he tried to push the truck down the street.

Officials on the scene say the homeowner ran out and shot the suspect in the leg. He does not face any charges. The suspect was transported to the hospital.

Yay,Taurus! My thoughts exactly! Since he's from the shallow end of the gene pool, I was hoping the homeowner would aim a little higher and take out any chance of stupidity breeding more stupidity.

He should have shot him in the nuts instead to keep him from creating any more little thieves and burglars.

truetex you know that it was theift of a car and theirfore according to texas law that the owner can use deadly force at any point in time. Yeah I took the CHL course 3 weeks ago, the law was changed in late September more people need to do this though then there would be less theft.

The reason the homeowner was not charged was that the theft occurred at night. Deadly force is authorized to protect your property during hours of darkness. Deadly force is even authorized against criminal mischief (e.g. tagging) during these hours. This is just some of what you will learn when you take a CHL course.

yea....I see your point...but it would not be funny if it was my truck! Just shows you how far these lowlife thieves will go to get something they don't "work for". I would have still have shot to kill, no mercy for these scumbags.

Sorry Diablo, but the only part of the story I saw stated that "the thief had trouble starting the car". Didn't mention anything about hotwiring the truck. Still think it's funnier than all get out that he tried to steal a car by pushing it down the street....you've got to have a sense of humor about that!
