SAN ANTONIO - A police officer was lucky to escape without serious injury after a truck slammed into his patrol car on the East Side.

The accident happened shortly after 10 pm Saturday night at the intersection of Burnet and North New Braunfels. Investigators aren't sure if the man ran the stop sign on Burnet – or if he just didn't see the officer's car.

The officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The truck driver was given a field sobriety test after open containers were found in the vehicle. He now faces DWI charges.

Boy, if hitting a cop doesn't swear a person off drinking and driving, I don't know what will do the trick....

We should be much more worried about who is given a driver's license than about gun control!!

Instead of trying to disarm law abiding citizens with 2nd Amendment infringing gun laws/bans, the government need to institute a reasonable proposal that addresses the national drunk driving epidemic. There are far more drunk driving relate deaths in this country than those attributed to guns. Where are all the liberals now and why are hey not calling for "vehicle control" laws?
