SAN ANTONIO - A man was shot to death after a lover's quarrel got out of hand.
Police say a woman and her boyfriend got into an argument at the Oak Manor Apartments off Austin Highway around 12:00 a.m. Thursday. News 4 WOAI was told the argument escalated, and the woman's son pulled out a gun and shot the boyfriend.
When officers arrived, they found the boyfriend lying face down on the bedroom floor. The woman told police the victim, who stayed with her on and off, showed up at the apartment Wednesday night. She said the two began arguing after he accused her of cheating. She told police the argument continued as they both went into a bedroom, and the victim hit her in the face with his fist.
The woman said her son then came to the bedroom and told her to open the door. She said when her son saw her crying he asked if the boyfriend had hit her and then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her boyfriend. A few moments later, she said she heard a loud noise, and her boyfriend collapsed on the floor.
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Ernest Garcia. "My heart just dropped I was speechless, " said Fidel Garcia, the victims brother.
Garcia said his brother Ernest had just recently been released from prison and was trying to turn his life around.
Garcia said his brother had only been dating the suspects mother for several weeks.
"I just thought she wasn't the right person for my brother and I told him that, " said Garcia.
Police are still searching for the woman's son, 23-year-old Jonathan Jose Guillen, who investigators say took off with an 11-month-old boy. Guillen is a Latin male, who is 5' 08" tall, weighs about 185 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. Police said Guillen was last seen on foot in the 2300 block of Austin Highway with the baby and that he may be armed.
