SAN ANTONIO -- Police have released the identity of a man arrested in connection with a deadly shooting on the Far West Side Wednesday.
Franco Xavier Summers, 21, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Summers is accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Roger Rodriguez while the two were arguing in the 9800 block of Alexa Place Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say Summers also shot 19-year-old Jesus Garcia, who witnesses say tried to stop Summers and Rodriguez from fighting.
One witness told police Summers had been dating Rodriguez's sister on and off for two years and had come to the girl's house looking for her Wednesday. The witness said after Summers left, it was decided to take the girl to a location where she would be safe.
A police report states when the witness returned to the home, he saw Summers and Rodriguez arguing and Garcia approaching the pair and yelling at them to stop. The witness told police Summers then pulled out a gun and started shooting at Rodriguez and Garcia. Another witness confirmed the events and said Rodriguez immediately fell to ground after he was shot and Garcia ran to a nearby vehicle which and drove away.
Rodriguez died at scene. Garcia, who was seriously wounded, was located about two miles away and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
