SAN ANTONIO - Parents and students went out to support McCollum High School Gold Star dance team leader and speech teacher Cassandra Rios.
A Harlandale ISD school board meeting was scheduled Monday night, and the board was supposedly going to discuss Rio's job.
Rios has been on administrative leave for several months. Her absence centers around a picture of the teacher and her dance team students. The photo was taken last year on the River Walk at Dick's Last Resort restaurant.
Someone tagged Rios in a Facebook photo that some people consider inappropriate.
Former student Jasmine Lopez said Ms. Rios had nothing to do with picking the restaurant.
"All of the Seniors just wrote down what restaurant we wanted to go to and we just took a vote on it, and Dicks Last Resort was the one that one," said Lopez.
Lopez said the dance team was celebrating after winning a national title.
Some parents said Ms. Rio is a great role model who deserves to be back at school with her students.
"I feel that it's an injustice, you know the craziness the kids have been put through, " said parent Jennifer Ortega.
The Harlandale ISD school board meeting has been reschedule for next Monday, October 15th at 6:15 pm. The meeting will be held at Schulze Elementary School.
