Standoff with armed man threatening suicide ends peacefully

SAN ANTONIO -- A two-hour standoff Saturday afternoon in the Northeast Side ended with a suspect in custody, officials said.

According to police, first responders arrived at 3pm in the 13000 block of Sendero for a report of a man threatening to kill himself. The man refused negotiations with police and refused to exit the home he was in.

He later ran out of the residence and into a ditch off Weidner Road, police said. The standoff continued while the armed  while police blocked off that part of Weidner Road and halted a nearby train.

The standoff ended just before 5 pm with police taking the man into custody. The suspect’s name or any charges he now faces were not immediately released by police.
