SAN ANTONIO - Blossom Athletic Center at Northeast Independent School District was evacuated Saturday night after a bomb threat was called in. The call was made around seven o’clock in the evening to the San Antonio Police Department. Nothing was found.
According to NEISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor, school district officials immediately took action and evacuated the stadium filled with an estimated 4,000 people. An announcement was made that everyone needed to evacuate, however; the crowd was not told why. Chancellor said it didn’t take long to get everyone out safely and in an orderly manner.
The football game between Johnson and McArthur High Schools was already underway, so the game had to be stopped. It is scheduled to resume Monday night.
Students from Churchill High School were also on the grounds at Littleton Gym, attending their homecoming dance. They too were evacuated. The school district spokesperson said their dance will be rescheduled, but there is no set date as of yet.
Police investigated the stadium with their K9 unit as they looked to sniff out anything suspicious, but again, nothing was found.
