As a former Site Director at College Living Experience and current Editor of Autism After 16 (www.autismafter16.com) I would like to thank you for providing this look at one of the options available for postsecondary students with autism. However, I believe It would have been useful to mention the cost of this program and others like it. Families can expect to pay over $35,000 per year in tuition alone at programs such as this—a figure which does not include college tuition or living expenses. Most families who enroll their students in this type of support program bear the burden of funding privately. In addition, it is extremely useful for families to ask for and evaluate outcomes for postsecondary programs in order to determine whether a fiscal outlay of this nature makes good sense for them, given what the data indicates regarding employability of adults with autism (even those with college degrees) over lifespan and the very real need for family support throughout adulthood.
