SAN ANTONIO -- The Olmos Basin may look beautiful, but some News 4 WOAI viewers say it smells really, really bad.

"The smell of sewage is overwhelming," Robert Baron told us. "And I looked at the stream and the banks are all stained black, with uh, raw sewage. There's a film floating on the water."

We contacted San Antonio Water System and The San Antonio River Authority. Both of them sent out crews to take water samples. San Antonio River Authority officials say their tests showed high levels of oxygen and ammonia, which is consistent with a sewage leak. SAWS officials say they have been testing the water since last week, even going so far as to put cameras in the water, but have not found a leak.

Both groups tell us they will continue to monitor the situation.

How did you help, BACKTOYOU? If you resent the reporters on WOAI, why don't you watch FOX? The Olmos Basin Park could be a beautiful place if it weren't for all the trash and fertilizer runoff polluting the waterway. Despite that, it is home to numerous specials of amphibians, reptiles, and wading birds. The golf course has removed almost all the natural riparian vegetation, but some precious wildlife try to hang hang on there. WOAI was the only news station that answered my phone call, and showed up not knowing whether they would find anything worth reporting, and got the SA River Authority and SAWS out there. SAWS has been there every day since with 5-15 workers, heavy earth moving equipment, pump tanker trucks, 4-5 large tractor-trailers loaded with gravel. So, something wrong was brought to light and it's being worked on by SAWS. I find your comments to be very ignorant and completely useless. Rob Barron
