SOMERSET- A San Antonio Water System spokesperson said a boil order in Somerset could be lifted Wednesday morning, pending water test results.
No contaminants are believed to be in the water, but the boil order won't be lifted until the results come in, Anne Hayden said. The results could take up to 36 hours. The order has been in effect since a contractor hit a water line and a gas line Monday evening. The line has since been repaired.
Meanwhile, residents are picking up gallons of water and bags of ice at Somerset City Hall. Cleo Guest said his 20-month-old daughter Lily has been without a proper bath since the line broke. The dishes are piling up in the sink and he's having to boil water just to clean her water cups. She only has one kidney, so he and his wife don't want to take any chances.
"You never realize how much you need water until they say you can't use it, you have to boil it all first," Guest said. "And then you find you spend most of your time over the stove waiting for it to boil."
SAWS had given away about 10,000 gallons of water and more than 400 bags of ice by Tuesday afternoon.
