SAN ANTONIO - A man was seriously burned Monday in South Bexar County, and it all started with a cigarette. It incident happened at a home along Southern Trail, that's near Highway 16 and Loop 1604.

We talked to a neighbor who told us 63-year-old James Brewer, who uses oxygen because of a medical condition, lit a cigarette. He still had his oxygen mask on when he lit up. It blew back into the tube, burned his nose and down into his chest.

Brewer was taken by helicopter to Brooke Army Medical Center with burns to his face and chest. No details have been released about his condition.

@ catguy: Congrats!!!! Quitting isn't easy. I know first hand. I've quit a couple times in my life, for years at a time, but backslid. Just quit again 4 months ago, and this time it may stick. No desire to pick up another cig, very seldom even the thought of want, & now living out in the boonies well away from temptations or easy, immediate access to purchase when out.

My guess is this won't be the last time for this doofus. Addiction wins out over brains every time.

When I first met da wife, she asked me if I smoked after sex? Told her, I never looked, but was pretty sure I did! Not all smoking's bad, but it can lead to massive strokes!

"Smoking with an oxygen mask a bad combination" Ya think? How many years of college did were necessary to come up with this conclusion? Here's a thought: If he hadn't have smoked in the first place, maybe he wouldn't have been on oxygen. The fact that he had to be on oxygen in the first place, should have been a pretty good clue that maybe it was time to quit. It's hard to have sympathy for someone whose circumstances are caused by his/her own stupidity.

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette; smoke, smoke, smoke yourself to death. Tell Saint Peter at the Gate, that you hates to make him wait, but you gotta have another cigarette.
