PLEASANTON, Texas (AP) -- A conductor suffered minor injuries after jumping from one Union Pacific freight train before it struck another in South Texas.

UP spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza-Williams said Thursday that the line in Atascosa County reopened and cleanup should be done by the end of the week. Eight cars derailed.

Espinoza-Williams told The Associated Press that traffic resumed Wednesday night in an area 20 miles from Pleasanton.

Espinoza-Williams says the investigation continues into how around 1 a.m. Wednesday a train hauling grain hit the rear of an unoccupied rock-hauling train on a side track.

The conductor on the grain train was treated for cuts and bruises.

Espinoza-Williams says six cars derailed from the grain train, bound from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, spilling soybeans. The rock-hauling train, with two cars derailing, originated in New Braunfels.
