SAN ANTONIO -- Police are searching for a man they say tried to rob a South Side store Tuesday morning.

Police received a call about a robbery at the Goodwill store at Southwest Military Drive and Zarzamora, across from South Park Mall. Police said two employees and a manager were inside the store getting ready to open for the day, when a man showed up around 7:45 a.m.  When one of the employees asked the man if he could help him, he told the employee he needed to talk to the manager and then continued into the store.

The manager told police the man approached her from behind and grabbed her by her hair. She said he then told her to open the safe room and guided her in the direction of the room by her hair. The employee said she thought the voice sounded familiar and that someone was playing a joke on her. When he pulled on her hair harder, however, she then turned around, saw the shotgun, and froze.

The employee who had met the man at the door then ran towards the front of the store, yelled to another employee in the front to leave, and both of them ran out the front door. The manager told officers the man was startled when the employees ran and let go of her. She then ran out the front door as well and waited outside with the other two employees for police to arrive.

Because there was a concern the man might still be inside, police locked down the area, surrounded the building, and led a police K-9 through the store. A police department spokesperson said it appeared the suspect left through the back door and didn't get away with any cash or merchandise.

The manager told investigators she believed the man may have been a former employee since she believed she recognized his voice and he was familiar with the store opening procedures.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5' 08" tall, and weighs about 160 pounds. He has a medium build and a dark complexion. He was wearing a teal/blue hoodie and dark-colored makeup on his face at the time of the robbery.

If you have any information about this attempted robbery, please immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867), submit a tip online, or text a tip by texting "Tip 127 plus your tip" to CRIMES (274637). Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.

CRIME STOPPERS WILL PAY UP TO $5,000.00 FOR INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO THE ARREST OF THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CRIME.

Certain thrift stores offer a program for individuals to complete their court-ordered community service hours. Maybe a connection or not?

WOW! Wayyyy to close to home. What's the deal with the thrift stores though? Are they loaded or something? Sounds like an ex-employee who knows the routine.
