SAN ANTONIO - It's a Christmas Miracle for 21-year-old shooting victim Maggie McCombs.
Last January Maggie was shot five times by an alleged stalker as she was walking out of a gym. Maggie's friend Juan Escamilla was also hit, and dies from his injuries. Maggie was left paralyzed from the shoulders down.
News 4 WOAI has followed Maggie’s story ever since, and reached out to the community for help because she and her family desperately needed a wheelchair accessible van.
Thanks to your help and the Gordon Hartman Foundation, Maggie and her family got the keys to a brand new Toyota van that her wheelchair can fit perfectly inside. Maggie and her parents are so thankful for the outpouring of support from San Antonio.
Maggie said, “I'm just really thankful. It's going to help my family out a lot.”
“Its truly incredible. This is probably the single biggest Christmas gift Maggie and I know I will get in a lifetime,” Maggie’s father, Michael McCombs, expressed.
The community helped raise more than $30,000.
