SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau says the sheriff's department is out of money for Bexar County Detention Center employees' overtime.

Sheriff Pamerleau held a news conference Friday afternoon to discuss the issue. She said the department was given $1.7 million for detention center overtime for the 2012 fiscal year. The department ran out of overtime funds two days ago.

The sheriff said she asked for and received enough money from Bexar County Commissioners to pay for detention center overtime through January 14th. Starting on the 15th, detention center employees will received one and a half hours of compensatory time for every hour of overtime they work.

Pamerleau plans to meet with Bexar County Commissioners again on January 29th to ask for more funds and set up a plan for the upcoming months.

Ok, you are probable right about that BatLover, but who wants a job like that and be forced to work so many hours without any choice and little pay. Not many or else they would have filled the positions that they still have open. Also why are all these part time jobs available in San Antonio everything is low pay and crapy to no benefits.

Actually, Mike, it's cheaper to pay the ovetime. Hiring someone means they have to pay the benefit package and that can cost more than the basic pay of an employee.

Seems to me that it would be cheaper to hire more officers than paying overtime. If they are unable to hire people maybe they need to increase the pay to intice people to work in that type of enviroment. I checked it out and in Austin the pay for the same job is way more, why whould you start working for them for less money and more hours.

Sheriff Ortiz and his lackeys helped hide decades of fraud and theft of tax and grant funds..........Pamerleau needs to fire all the BCSO officers who helped hide the crimes along with one of her staff who participated in the criminal activity when he worked for the City's IT Department ..............http://tpr.org/post/source-banned-city-hall
