SAN ANTONIO -- Sheriff-elect Susan Pamerleau announced some of what people can expect at the sheriff's office come January 1st. She's sending a definite signal that there's a new sheriff in town and change is on the way.
Pamerleau named four executive leaders on the steps of the Bexar County Courthouse. Those named include Chief Deputy Manuel Longoria, who'll keep his job, and Captain Tammy Burr, who becomes Deputy Chief for Court Security and Judicial services. Burr is the first female deputy to rise from bailiff to deputy chief.
"This is a perfect example that hard work and dedication to your job, that it pays off for you," said Burr. "It does pay off."
Deputy Chief Mark Thomas will serve as Interim Jail Administrator, and former USAA spokesman Paul Berry will become the sheriff's spokesman.
"Over the past few years, I've seen the news, you've seen the news. Sometimes the coverage has shown some of the things we might not have been the most proud of," explained Berry.
Pamerleau says she's making the announcement now to give current employees a heads up that some people could lose their jobs.
"It's important that those not staying with the sheriff's office have as much time as possible to work their transitions," Pamerleau told us.
Thursday, Pamerleau will begin the process to become a certified law enforcement officer.
She plans to announce the final six members of her command team in a few weeks.
