SAN ANTONIO – “He doesn't even own a Mercedes.”

That's what the Bexar County Sheriff's Office is saying about an allegation that Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz was stopped for driving drunk.

The office released a statement Thursday afternoon after the San Antonio Lightning - a local internet site - reported that the sheriff had been "Popped for a DWI" then driven home by a cop. The report claims that the sheriff was driving erratically, was driven home by police and that he abandoned his Mercedes on the side of the road.

The sheriff's office disputes the allegations, saying not only does the sheriff not own a Mercedes, he was home at the time of the alleged stop.

Born Again - I have to tell you, I'm so glad I found you and your "wisdom" with religious rants that are so off topic. You are awesomely entertaining!

Indeed, GSDlady; that is why I voted for General Pamerleau for Sheriff. :)

BornAgain--How about a God-fearing, retired military, Republican female for Sheriff?

With his re-election approaching this could be a slanderous move by his opponents.

Today is National Donut Day and I believe it is a poor day to take police officers to task. After all, they should be allowed to celebrate their day in peace. However, I believe this is too important a situation to ignore. It is well known that roughly 40% of San Antonio drivers out after 10PM are near to blind drunk. After midnight, that figure jumps to almost 80%. It is no real surprize that the Sheriff is out driving around drunk; he is a politician with a gun and a free car, a Democrat and he is unsaved. We need a godly and honest man to become the Sheriff, one that is a Christian and not involved with slimy, devilish Democrats. The new Sheriff can then arrest the unsaved drunks that are driving around and put them in the jail instead of joining them. That is a completely non-violent way to take control of the night from the Devil's people. I believe this course is what Jesus would suggest.

Has anyone tried to verify that story or is everyone just taking it as the gospel truth? Could it be a political move by the opposing candidates? It would be nice to know where it originated so the people of San Antonio would know the actual truth.

Knew a former chief of police who used to drive drunk multiple times a week in San Antonio while drunk. He'd go into the restaurants after the bars closed and be so drunk he'd be falling face first into his food. Yet NOBODY touched him because of who he knew. Really disgusting that these people don't have to abide by the same laws that the rest of us do. One of the San Antonio officers told me straight out that if they arrested him that the brass would come after them and make their life miserable. Wasn't surprised because that is the way the game is played by those in charge.

Add this to the SAPD PR seargant who killed a woman and got away with it. Along with the SAPD officer who was caught on video by another SAPD officer falling out of his Toyota pickup, and the video "mysteriously stopped" midstream. They said he slipped. Sure. Want to stop DWI, start putting the police in jail. Along with the rich people who kill people but get probation. First time should be 30 days with a hefty fine. Second time, a year and double the fine. Can't pay the fine, double the time in jail. After we get the drunks off the road, let's start with the losers on their cells talking and texting in the left lane, while driving well below the speed limit. Bottom line, until we penalize the enforcers, nothing will change.
