SAN ANTONIO - A 60-year-old registered sex offender is caught shooting video of young girls during a cheer leading competition at the Alamodome. The three-day competition wrapped up Sunday, and parents learned that a man was arrested for inappropriate photography.

11-year-old Vianca Gutierrez left the competition with mixed emotions. Her all-star team from Laredo won first place, but her mom says she’ll have some disturbing things to explain on the two-hour ride home.

60-year-old Andrew Sanchez was arrested at the cheerleading competition.

San Antonio Police say one of their officers, who was working part-time security at the Alamodome for the event, discovered Sanchez zooming in on body parts as he shot video of young girls.

The officer confronted Sanchez and discovered he was a sex offender, and did not have any children competing in the event.  The sex offender registry says Sanchez was sentenced to three years for possession of child porn back in 2008.

Parents like Gloria Gutierrez who were inside the dome quickly heard about the arrest through social media.

“We were all shocked. I mean, you know a 60-year-old man. These little girls are still in high school and middle school,” said Gutierrez.

Some parents, who had just arrived and were waiting in the parking lot, had no idea about Sanchez’s arrest. They were shocked to hear that Sanchez is a registered sex offender.

“It is upsetting especially when you have young girls when they're trying to compete and do good for themselves in a venue that you’re assuming has good security,” said Olga Young.

Ok, I'll admit, this guy was sick. But I will say this. And you're not gonna like it. The parents should have been validated in what they were trying to do by his behavior. Why? Because basically, they are causing their daughters to dress sexually and totally immodestly. They are wanting their daughters to be looked at and gawked at by people for their beauty. They got what they wanted from this guy. They just got it a little too much. Yeah, he is sick, but there are a lot of sick people out there. If a father does not want his daughter to be a lust object, he will make sure that she doesn't participate in ANYTHING that will lead to that state. And while we're at it, what about the little boys who lust after the cheerleaders who cheer for the football games their daddies watch? These ungodly cheerleaders are who these little girls are following; and their ungodly parents dont' really care about their souls. This is the truth.

Good job on the officer's part for paying attention and spotting the guy. Maybe this perv would have escalated. All of them get to go home safe and another one is put in jail. Sounds like this maybe an example of SAPD officer's doing what they are paid to do. Good Job.

My daughter was in this cheerleading competition this weekend and she is only 5! Thank god for the security acting fast once they realized what he was doing and what he was there for!!!! This is why you have to watch your kids every second because of sick people like this guy!

This slob is definitely trash. But, I must say, that cheerleaders outfits are very revealing, and it makes me wonder if they were not so revealing, how many girls would actually want to be cheerleaders at all. There will always be filthy men that are like this one, so why not make the outfits alot less revealing?

Sam1254 makes an interesting point. I'm curious to know what defines "improper photography". If the guy was videotaping what was commonly viewable by anybody there, not shooting from under the bleachers, in dressing rooms etc., what did he actually do? I'm not saying the guy isn't a pervert, but there was a story a week or so ago where female students were filmed from the waist down (in miniskirts and "daisy dukes" as one person stated) as part of the report... Was this also improper photography?

Locking these types up and then releasing them accomplishes nothing. They dont learn their lesson. They continue to re-offend and prey on children. So it is time to change the way we deal with these types.....

Sadly, people end up on the registry not before they've committed a crime, but after. People are born without criminal records, you know. Mapping out where all the perverts live should not give a sense of security, because it would be a false one. You're not accounting for all the "new" ones that haven't been caught yet. Unfortunately there's no bandaid that can be applied to negate the need for vigilance and common sense.

This guy is obviously a pervert, no sympathy there at all. But if it's inappropriate to take video of a kid at a cheerleading competition, isn't that charge a tacit admission that the kid is dressed inappropriately? I mean, it shouldn't even be POSSIBLE for someone to take inappropriate pictures of your kids. I'm not talking about images that are taken from odd positions, like under a dress, but from normal postures and heights, and in public.

All of these types should be executed. They let them out and they will do it again, bet this creep as some more child porn on his pc too. Its sad there are so many roaming among us. Certainly smart to check the sexual offender websites. Some kids do still walk to school, one would like to know if there are any of these perverts living along their kids route to school.
