SAN ANTONIO - A 60-year-old registered sex offender is caught shooting video of young girls during a cheer leading competition at the Alamodome. The three-day competition wrapped up Sunday, and parents learned that a man was arrested for inappropriate photography.
11-year-old Vianca Gutierrez left the competition with mixed emotions. Her all-star team from Laredo won first place, but her mom says she’ll have some disturbing things to explain on the two-hour ride home.
60-year-old Andrew Sanchez was arrested at the cheerleading competition.
San Antonio Police say one of their officers, who was working part-time security at the Alamodome for the event, discovered Sanchez zooming in on body parts as he shot video of young girls.
The officer confronted Sanchez and discovered he was a sex offender, and did not have any children competing in the event. The sex offender registry says Sanchez was sentenced to three years for possession of child porn back in 2008.
Parents like Gloria Gutierrez who were inside the dome quickly heard about the arrest through social media.
“We were all shocked. I mean, you know a 60-year-old man. These little girls are still in high school and middle school,” said Gutierrez.
Some parents, who had just arrived and were waiting in the parking lot, had no idea about Sanchez’s arrest. They were shocked to hear that Sanchez is a registered sex offender.
“It is upsetting especially when you have young girls when they're trying to compete and do good for themselves in a venue that you’re assuming has good security,” said Olga Young.
