SAN ANTONIO - Security guards were hired to patrol the Bexar County Sheriff's Office new substation because deputies are concerned about the protection of their vehicles.

This adds to the ongoing list complaints about the new substation location on Farm Road and Southton. Deputies have complained about the mud when it rains and having to park their vehicles and units in the trenches.

Security guards are now patrolling around the substation because there's only portable lighting and deputies were concerned about vandals.

Bexar County Sheriff Spokesperson Louis Antu said, “We have hired a security company to patrol out in the evenings to make sure their vehicles are safe.”

Commissioner Kevin Wolff says he understands deputies concerns and says improvements are in the works. Wolff explained how the county will spend nearly half a million dollars to fix up the substation and improve parking.

“We are spending the money and moving as quickly as possible to make a bad situation better,” Wolff said.

The sheriffs department has added security to this facility due to the facility being located where the old state hospital used to be. There is a certain element that used to visit this lovcation after dark to drink, use drugs engage in sexual activities as well as discharge firearms at the location. The sheriffs department has added security to keep an extra set of eyes at the location. I believe that they have added the extra protection due to the Halloween "holiday". The facility is still a work in progress. The parking area needs to be asphalted and there needs to be additional lighting added. Despite these issues, having the substation on Farm Road has cut down on the unwanted traffic. I for one am very happy they are there, and hope the county expidites the improvements.

If they are so worried about their vehicles being vandalized so badly, maybe they need to look at the way they treat the general public...

They will transfer money from the Pre-K tax fund to pay for it. That's why they are pushing for the Pre-K tax, just another fund to pull from.

And how are they going to pay for these improvements? By upping the revenue generation by harassing motorists. Absolutely pathetic.

That must make the people that live in that area feel good, to know the sheriff's can't protect their own vehicles. How can they be expected to protect anyone else? Let them deal with the same reality everyone else faces, law enforcement shows up after the crime is commited to investigate.
